With Every Difficulty is Ease

Allah is ever near. “He is closer to you than your jugular vein” the Qur’an teaches us. For a believer, all that affects him, the good and the trials, are seen as a mercy from Allah.

We believe that all trials are from the mercy of Allah, that when He leads us to troubled waters, it is not to drown us, but to cleanse us. In desperation, just as in the state of well-being and joy, we can also feel the merciful presence of Allah. Desperation can elevate us to the realization that we are beggars of Allah; for, without His grace, we have nothing.

We may well expect that ease will follow difficulty, but the Qur’an promises us something more:  “With every difficulty is ease. Indeed with every difficulty is ease” (Surah al-Inshirah, 94:5,6). And this is the ease that comes from Allah’s merciful gaze upon you. If He brings you to it, He will certainly bring you through it.
