Allah is Sufficient For Us

Description

Translation of verse: “Sufficient for us is Allah, and (He is) the best Disposer of affairs.” (Quran 3:173)

Allah is sufficient for us. Full stop. For surely, He is the best of Disposers. Another full stop.

These few words form part of the 176th verse of Surat Al ‘Imran and contain some of the most robust realities of our tradition.

Think about it. In all of our affairs, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is granting us the reassurance that He (alone) is enough for us.

What a great gift! While people desperately search for meaning in an ever-increasing nihilistic world, Allah informs us in just a few words that He (alone) looks after us. And not only does He look after us and our affairs, He does it in the best possible way!

These famous words are often invoked by Muslims at the time of danger, but they also carry a profound spiritual significance. That is to say that these words should remind us that when we are imbued with the required spiritual immunity, we should never be discouraged when worldly people unite to repudiate us.
