“Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbi al-‘Alamin”, all Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Universe, are the first words of the first surah of the Qur’an. With these words, we praise Allah, affirming all that He is and our complete and utter dependence on Him. What achievement or accomplishment is there but that it is built on His immense favours and His grace? And it is for this reason that we reorient ourselves to Him by rendering praise and gratitude and by affirming that He is the being that makes everything possible.
