Shahadah in Thuluth

Description

This is the Shahadah, the declaration of faith, which states: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.”

The words of the Shahadah are among the first words whispered into the ears of a Muslim child, moments after birth. They are also the first words uttered by anyone entering into the fold of Islam, words that will profoundly impact the course of his and her life’s direction from that moment onwards. For in this simple phrase lies the journey of spiritual discovery, a journey towards Allah.

To bear witness that “there is no god but Allah” means to reject any idol, false god or ambition as the ultimate object of reverence in our lives. To bear witness “that Muhammad is Allah’s servant and messenger” means that we are willing to undertake a journey to be like him, to be inspired by his capacity for human goodness, humility and surrender and to have him as our teacher and our example.

The Shahadah is a simple phrase, but when recited with conviction, it is the phrase that has been changing human hearts for over a thousand years and with that, the course of history.
