Description
“Kufic” draws its name from the city of Kufa in southern Iraq although this style may not necessarily have originated there. It was used extensively for the early manuscripts of the Qur’an and it appears in the oldest surviving manuscripts of the Qur’an.
The Kufic script is distinctly angular, with thick lines that do not slope and are written on a horizontal baseline. The formality of this script lends an air of majesty with its measured pace.
This decal is patterned in the classical geometric square, with its cubic form that alludes to the Baytullah, the Ka`bah, which is not just the geographical but spiritual centre to which Muslims orient their daily lives.
